How to care for your plushies

Caring for Your Handmade Crochet Plushies: A Gentle Guide
All our crochet plushies are handcrafted with love and care.
Like all delicate treasures, those plushies deserve a bit of care to stay as lovely and fluffy as the day they arrived.
Here are a few simple tips to help you take care of your yarn friends.
1. Washing: all about gentleness
Crochet plushies dislike heat and harsh handling.
Before washing, check the type of yarn and stuffing:
If the plushie is made of cotton, it can handle gentle cleaning quite well.
If it contains wool or special filling (such as pellets, bells, or crinkly paper),
you’ll need to be extra cautious.
👉 Handwashing is always the best option.
How to do it:
Fill a small basin with lukewarm water (not hot!).
Add a tiny drop of mild soap or baby detergent.
Submerge the plushie and gently press. Do not rub or wring.
Rinse with clean water until all soap is gone.
Gently press out excess water (but don’t twist or wring).
(On very exceptional occasions, you may tumble wash it on a cold and
delicate program while it's contained in a fabric bag).
🩷 Tip: For small stains (like on the nose or ear), spot-cleaning with a damp
sponge works perfectly.

2. Drying: patience and fresh air
No tumble dryer, no radiator!
The heat could cause the fibers to felt or deform.
Place your plushie on a clean towel, then:
Roll it gently in the towel to absorb excess water.
Lay it flat to dry in the open air, in a dry, temperate spot, away from direct sunlight.
Avoid hanging the plushie while it’s wet: the weight of the water could stretch the stitches and alter its shape!
3. Regular care: keeping things fresh
A little routine maintenance is all your plushies need to stay fresh:
Gently pat to remove dust.
Use a soft brush or lint roller if needed.
Store them away from moisture and direct sunlight to keep their colors bright.
For a quick refresh, you can also place your plushie in a sealed bag in the freezer for a few hours: this safely eliminates mites and bacteria without harming the fibers.

4. Small home repairs
A loose thread? A floppy ear?
Handmade plushies sometimes need a little... maintenance ✨
For a loose thread, tuck it back in with a yarn needle instead of cutting it. Do not tear on it
or cut it.
For a small tear, sew it up with a matching thread and small, neat stitches 🪡
If your plush has lost some stuffing, you may need to undo a few stitches to add a little
more and make it plumpy again.
And if you’d rather not attempt repairs yourself, don’t hesitate to contact the maker: we usually
know the best way to bring our creations back to life without losing their charm.

5. Love: the best care of all
More than a decorative object, a crochet plushie is a tiny piece of someone’s story.
With a little care, it can last for years, and sometimes even be passed down 💖
Take care of it, give it hugs, avoid over-washing, and it will keep bringing comfort and smiles for a long time 🌙
